I’ve been searching for and trying clean beauty products for years. It started when I was in college and realized certain chemicals in my shampoo made my acne worse. When you have acne as an adult, you’ll try anything! Later, my endometriosis started to get worse and I began digging deeper into the world of toxins. I learned that not only can certain ingredients/chemicals, like endocrine disruptors, aggravate endometriosis but they may actually be the cause of endometriosis.

It was a huge, life-changing awakening.

Turns out, things like parabens, phthalates, synthetic colors, synthetic fragrances, and sodium lauryl sulfate can powerfully and negatively impact our ability to produce, use, and breakdown hormones – in other words, disrupt our delicate and extremely complex endocrine system. This has serious implications on our health and can lead to increased rates of endometriosis, PCOS, thyroid disease, preterm labor, miscarriage, birth defects, poor sperm health, and cancer. The scariest part is that these kinds of chemicals are everywhere. The shampoo/conditioner, makeup, face wash, lotions, and soaps on the shelves at CVS, Rite Aid, and traditional grocery stores are loaded with endocrine disruptors. The $530 billion beauty industry is highly unregulated and the United States is way behind other countries. For example, the US is still using thousands of chemicals that have been banned in the EU for years.

We must take it upon ourselves to research and choose products that are free of these dangerous chemicals. After all, these are products we use every single day. We put many of them directly on our skin and we breath the synthetic fragrances (some of which are known carcinogens, respiratory irritants, and endocrine disruptors) all day long.

OH MY WORD!

If we’re looking to reduce our daily toxic exposure, re-evaluating our beauty products should be on the top of all of our lists.

So began my quest for beauty products that were safe AND worked. These days we have lots to choose from when it comes to non-toxic options but Beautycounter is my favorite.

I first started using Beautycounter products when I began trying to get pregnant. All of a sudden, it wasn’t just about me. Now I had to think about what I would be exposing my maybe-soon-to-be, growing baby to everyday. I already knew endocrine disruptors could negatively impacting my hormones. And now I was acutely aware that they could impact my ability to get pregnant.

When our baby girl finally did arrive (read my fertility story here), I knew I had to protect her health and minimize her exposure from day one.

I started trying more Beautycounter products and doing more and more research on the company. I not only fell in love with the products – face wash, shampoo, and baby line – but I fell in love with the company. Beautycounter is dedicated to using only the safest ingredients, using sustainable and low-impact packaging, and they are huge advocates for safer beauty product regulations in the United States.

Becoming a Beautycounter representative was the natural next step. I use their products all the time and now I get to share these products with you!

Here’s why I love Beautycounter…

Only Safe Ingredients

Many of their products are verified by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) which means they do not contain dangerous chemicals and they are held to the strictest standards. If you don’t know about the EWG’s website, Skin Deep, you’ve got to check it out! You can plug almost any beauty product into their search engine and see how it’s rated for safety. You can even see how Beautycounter products are rated.

The Products Work

The products are amazing. I’ve been buying and testing non-toxic beauty products for years. Some are great and some are terrible. It’s hard to create makeup and skin care products that work and are the right consistency/texture without ingredients that are harmful. Beautycounter banned 1500 chemicals from their products (even more than the EU), they screen their products rigorously, they source their ingredients responsibly, and they are super duper transparent. They are dedicated to making safe products. Check out the  list of ingredients they never use, The Never List.

They Smell Good

I love yummy smelling products but I’m also super sensitive to perfumes. Beautycounter does an amazing job at incorporating delicious smells without the chemicals. They use natural essential oils instead of synthetic fragrance.

Products For The Whole Family

We’ve all found products we love! The baby line is amazing and we use the products every day with our daughter, Lennon. They even have a complete product line for men.
