Specialized Infant Care

Specialized Infant Care

All infant care services are offered in conjunction with Inner Bridges Physical Therapy and Wellness.

I feel so very fortunate to be able to recommend the infant care services offered at Inner Bridges.  It is quite rare to find practitioners who work with infants at such a high level of care.

The therapists recognize that labor and delivery can be stressful and sometimes even traumatic for infants.  The baby can experience pulls and strains as he or she descends through the birth canal as well as direct head trauma from being pushed against a partially dilated cervix or the bony pelvis during labor.  This can result in structural imbalances that show up in a variety of symptoms including but certainly not limited to:

    • Reflux
    • Sleep disturbances
    • Torticollis
    • Digestive problems
    • Difficulty latching
    • Neck instability
    • Plagiocephaly
    • Respiratory issues
    • Vision and hearing problems
    • Allergies

If you had a difficult birth and/or suspect your baby may be experiencing symptoms related to the birth, the therapists at Inner Bridges can help.  They will evaluate your baby and recommend the most appropriate treatment.

Inner Bridges uses a sophisticated Manual Therapy approach.  It’s a gentle hands on technique that works to correct strains and rebalance the body.  Babies are wonderfully resilient and respond very well to treatment.  The therapists have extensive experience working with infants and offer soothing treatments that never involve force.

Manual therapy is very effective in addressing reflux, constipation, torticollis, plagiocephaly, poor head position, extremity imbalances, sleep concerns, respiratory issues, problems latching and issues related to a premature or traumatic birth.  By addressing these issues earlier, a baby has a greater ability to grow, self sooth and master developmental milestones.

Well Baby Services

Inner Bridges Physical Therapy and Wellness also offers Well Baby Services.  This is a chance to have your baby evaluated in the days and weeks following birth.  It can be difficult to figure out whether babies incurred injuries during birth.  Symptoms may be hard to connect to the birth and/or they may not manifest until weeks, months or even years after birth.  It’s a good idea to bring babies in for a Well Baby Exam if:

    • There was any trauma during birth
    • Either forceps and/or suction was used
    • The baby was delivered via emergency c-section
